that and not walking on the "walk here" board
Gaily bedight, a gallant knight in sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long, singing a song, in search of El Dorado.
But he grew old, this knight so bold, and o'er his heart a shadow,
Fell as he found no spot of ground that looked like El Dorado.
And as his strength failed him at length, he met a pilgrim shadow.
'Shadow,' said he,' Where can it be, this land of El Dorado?'
'Over the mountains of the Moon, down the Valley of the Shadow.
Ride, boldly ride,' the shade replied,' if you seek for El Dorado.'

Um, any more? Any Baba Yaga related death messages? I don't think we have any of those. And I'd like to see the Graveyard death message(s)... both EGA (on this thread) and VGA (other QG1 related thread).

My name is DBoyWheeler and I am a Paladin.

Here are three from the Brigand Fortress (and area)...

This one is from when you don't quite make it through the ambush:

This one is from when you step on the rug which says "Step here":

This one is from when you step on the bridge that does not have the note on it:

I like the "I Wasn't Ready" one. Really funny!

I like the one line from 'the rug over the pit trick' message

"..... the brigands approach to see the booby they've caught" smile.gif

I haven't really compared.. I wonder if the death messages changed much from QFG1 EGA to the VGA remake? The EGA messages seem funnier, although maybe they are the same in both games and I'm just losing my mind.

I like cartoony graphics from SCI0 (albeit in 16 colors, and blocky) much more than "realistic" graphics from SCI1 (QFG3 and QFG4). I don't know, but I think that QFG3, 4 and 5 would've been much funnier were they made using cartoony graphics, because they make the player relax seeing as it's only a game (and one which is completely humorous).

Anyway, back on topic. Here's my all time favorite in QFG1:

Hero walks around thinking he can walk over the trench.

I like that one biggrin.gif

Now that I'm thinking about it, it must have taken a lot of time to come up with all of the messages, since there are so many ways to die.

Anyone got the original EGA version of the death in the Graveyard (from entering w/out protection)?

Nope, but I did post if for the QFG1 remake. I believe the message is the same in both versions of the game.

*bump*

There's one very odd death message in the original version that I believe not many people have seen... I won't spoil the Death Message itself (especially since I don't exactly remember it) but I'll tell you how to see it. At the end of the game, when facing the Brigand Leader, instead of throwing the Dispel Potion on her, cast Calm and see what happens. Pretty odd, eh? wink.gif

I never found that one out. I just simply followed instructions and used Dispel Potion.

Still, that'd be fun to see! Who'd be willing to get the Death Message of casting Calm on the Brigand Leader?

Are you sure it was the EGA version where you can cast it? Because I tried casting it and it didn't work, it says casting spells wouldn't be useful now...

Anyway here are some more pics:

Our hero is squashed one last time under the door.

Our not-so-healthy hero falls prey to yet another of Yorick's traps

Showdown with the brigand leader.

... and this is what happens if you don't think of a good plan.

You've got to cast Calm immediately after the Brigand Leader jumps over her desk.

Anyway, here are the screenshots :

Casting the Calm spell :

Death message that occurs almost immediately after casting the spell :

EDIT 2 : Okay, it should work now.

OK, so this is where the "bitten by a program bug" death comes up. After opening the game in SCI Studio, I always wondered where it was scripted to appear. An excellent find! thumbs.gif
