The main thread that has the information and links to help you play QfG 4 in the best way is here.

Bear in mind that, according to the best information we have, the ideal way to play QfG is to use BOTH the NewRisingSun patch AND DOSBox.

The patch is necessary in order to fix some timing errors (bugs) that are part of QfG4 (notorious for its Error 42 and other known bugs), and it will not adversely affect your system.

DOSBox will recreate the environment originally intended for the playing of the games.

Happy playing!

Well well to live to tell my predicament! This is probably the fifteenth time playing Shadows (successfully on Win98) and here I am getting the fatal error message at the mad Monk's Tomb. ??? I have the patch running but...nothing doing.

Additionally I have installed DosBox but do NOT know how to use it just can't get it to access the drive with my Dos games crying2.gif

I am sick of Win XP, will revert to the old Dos.

Hey, if you have a puter with the old DOS, that's likely to be the best invironment for the game, since it was programmed for it originally. Good luck!
"Fear holds us and binds us and keeps us from growing... It kills a small piece of us each day. It holds us to what we know and keeps us from what's possible, and it's our worst enemy. Fear doesn't announce itself; it's disguised, and it's subtle. It's choosing the safe course; most of us feel we have 'rational' reasons to avoid taking risks... The brave man is not the one without fear, but the one who does what he must despite being afraid. To succeed, you must be willing to risk total failure; you must learn this."

Wow I haven't been here in a long time....but i need HELP!

I was talking to my brother about how we used to play Shadows Of Darkness constantly as kids and we'd relapse and play again as we got older. Well I've relapsed again! He gave me his copy of the CD and I have installed it, downloaded the patches and have been able to run it on DOSBox. HOWEVER, I cannot get the proper sound or the voiceovers when I play, and that totally kills the experience for me. I've tried to mess around with installation but with no luck.

Is it a DOSBox thing? When I played it before I had no problems with this. Can anyone help or have any ideas? Is there something in the installation I'm missing?

Once again I am encroaching...I normally play all (1-4) Quests on the DOS-Command of my XP, except certain events in Tarna and one in Mordavia on DOSBox. Good Luck!
