Getting very excited about this QFG style game! :)

this part sounds really cool (Elder Scrolls like):
"Characters aren't always stationary in the one place, and often move to other locations during the day. You can even follow them from room to room! This brings a lot of life and realism to the cities, and is not commonly seen in adventure games at all!"

Wait... it's based on Norse Mythology?

I'm not sure if I happy or sad.

Happy because I've been researching Norse Mythology lately, and aside from Wizard101 haven't seen many references to it in other games I've played.

Sad because... you guys kinda stole my idea. See, I'm writing a Quest for Glory fanfic series, and I'm planning on having the Spielburg-Willowsby area be based around that Mythology, since Germany (or Germania as I call it in Gloriana) is part of Norse territory.

Then again, considering the snow... I'm assuming this takes place up North? Then perhaps this is a very similar land to where Spielburg would be?

I think you can put it down to great minds think alike - Norse mythology is a very cool theme to play with :). The team has actually been working on this since late 2009.

The snowy forest is Jarnvidr (iron wood), located in Midgard (realm of the humans). The locations are from Norse myths again (though Fornsigtuna, the starting city, is actually a real place: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Fornsigtuna).

It does have a very QFG-ish feel, particularly with the way the forest was created graphically, but it very much stands on its own and doesn't reference QFG lore aside from some nods to the series.

*those guys, would be more correct as I'm not with them haha. Was just spreading the cool news. :)

Meh keep going with your fanfic Soulforge, we can never have too much QFG inspired stories & adventures out there! :)

Plus they've been working on Heroine's Quest for 10 years so they haven't really stolen anything, although as Fizzii (who actually IS one of their team lol) pointed out technically they did pretty much re-start the project from scratch in 2009. I believe prior to that it was a red headed female character in a regular green foresty fantasy land.

BTW It looks like they also posted a rather impressive video a few months back without me noticing.

Well, I wouldn't say that we've been working on this for 10 years - that's way too long for my limited patience :). Corby started work on his original idea for Heroine's Quest: The Legend of Fair Spring a long time ago, but that project was actually abandoned for a while before he decided to try again with the new Norse theme in '09. Soon after, he began looking for a programmer and Radiant got on board, and built the story. So it's a totally different game to Corby's first idea. And this happens a lot, where game developers may start a project, then give up on that idea before starting something else. The only thing that really remains in common is the female character and the primary title 'Heroine's Quest'.

Myself, I've been on the team since middle of last year, but I've been working with Radiant on games since 2004. Quite a long time ago!

*raises hand* I have a question!

Two, actually.

1. What's the name of this land of ice and snow that I'm becoming so intrigued with?

2. Is it somewhere in Gloriana, and if it is, when would it be taking place?
Because if it IS somewhere in Gloriana... I'm pondering an idea for my stories that will fit this into my TH!Canon...

This area is called Jarnvidr, which means 'Iron Wood'.

2. Is it somewhere in Gloriana, and if it is, when would it be taking place?

No, it is not in Gloriana. The game takes place in the Viking world of Midgard (earth), which is one of the nine realms in Norse mythology.

Crystal Shard is proud to announce the release of Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok, available for FREE download!

hqposter.png

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way.

The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles, the game has excellent replayability.

Features:
- Explore the rich world of Norse mythology!
- Three character classes with separate side quests: use your strength as a warrior, the arcane arts as a sorceress, wit and guile as a rogue, or create a hybrid with skills from multiple classes.
- 32 distinct voice acted characters with animated portraits.
- Over 100 hand-painted backgrounds and 10,000 sprites in animations.
- Many monsters, including giants, trolls, and svartalfar.
- High replayability due to optional quests, alternative solutions, and the three different classes.

This is an awesome game, and I've found myself losing quite a few hours to it.  (Y)

Hoping more people will pick up on it around here.  I've found myself stuck now and seem to be all out of hints as to how I can proceed.
