Is the issue that you cannot find the save file? Or that it's not saving at all?

If it's that you can't find the save file in your "C:/", the issue's just simply that DOSBox is confusing, because it doesn't see your C:/ as the actual C:/, it sees the game's folder as the C:/

Because of how DOSBox's file system management is set up, the C: for any game is the actual location where the game is installed. The GoG install follows this too. (Unless you're mounting the drive yourself by booting up DOSBox and doing it the old-school way)

So, if you're like me, you've got it at C:\Sierra\Quest for Glory\Quest for Glory 2\.
If this isn't the problem, just ignore my rambling biggrin.gif

Are you getting any message? Were you able to save, but not able find the saved character? The save file will have a "*.sav" extension. Normally this file would be saved in the game's folder. If you installed in GOG's default, your GOG folder will be in the %ProgramFiles% folder. This is a protected system folder with limited write permissions. If you were able to save your character, but are not able to find the file, it may be in the VirtualStore.
CODE
%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore

If you were not able to create the export to begin with, the remake occasionally would hang at the end with everyone in the castle. You can try to wait it out. If it continues to hang, try restoring to the last prior save and work your way back to the end.

Ok. Did you just click save, on the text that appeared on the screen, or did you try to type something different?

Cause normally it would be a:\[saved character name].sav (a:\would be the floppy drive)

But you would actually need to type something like: c:\[saved character name].sav

You may very well be running into the UAC restrictions. This is why GOG has moved their default path to "C:\GOG Games". Unfortunately, they only did this since I help them with the QfG release. Try right clicking on the shortcut and choose "Run as administrator". You will need the administrator password. If that does not work, you could try reinstalling it in "C:\GOG Games" instead of "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com". Be sure to save your save games if you do.

i tried using the original vga game not GoG's one with dosbox running straight from C:\
nothing changed
i finished the game
i cant save on the a: drive (i dont have one)
on the C: drive it acts like it does save but the file isn't there
and the dosbox says failed to start in write mode (somethin like that)
i did run it as admin and checked all the permissions and stuff :/

Don't tell it where to save it. Just give it a name and it will save it in the game's folder. Just keep in mind that you should never ever install an old game in a system folder like the Program Files folder. Write permissions are limited and can cause games to fail. This is the only reason that GOG now defaults to "C:\GOG Games". No write restrictions. This in spite of modern programming best practices dictate using the %ProgramFiles% folder. It is why my new installers default to "C:\Sierra".
