beerchug.gif ...best I can do
Gaily bedight, a gallant knight in sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long, singing a song, in search of El Dorado.
But he grew old, this knight so bold, and o'er his heart a shadow,
Fell as he found no spot of ground that looked like El Dorado.
And as his strength failed him at length, he met a pilgrim shadow.
'Shadow,' said he,' Where can it be, this land of El Dorado?'
'Over the mountains of the Moon, down the Valley of the Shadow.
Ride, boldly ride,' the shade replied,' if you seek for El Dorado.'

There's no money problems once you get strong enough, just kill 'em goblins and trolls and you'll get a lot of green (well, silver and gold anyway) and IIRC selling the beard gives you healing potions. Then again you could just cheat, but that ain't hero-like.

Fear doesn't announce itself; it's disguised, and it's subtle. It's choosing the safe course; most of us feel we have 'rational' reasons to avoid taking risks... Since you're playing the EGA version you could always use the debug codes. I'll post the codes if you would like. smile.gif

Yes Darian, my friend, I know what you mean...the problem is not what to do...be strong enough to kill the stupid monsters (you get more silver from the brigands than you do from the goblins)...it's getting strong enough and yet survive until you do, killing trolls, releasing the idiot Barnard etc. But thanks for the advice anyway. Have you played the original EGA version? And I have never used 'cheats' in my 24 years of 'gaming' life!

I do believe this one does have a bug. So PW if your debug codes are not a cheat I'd definitely welcome them.

I think exploiting bugs in a game is cheating, as you are playing the game as it is not ment to be played, but you can do it without entering cheats or anything as bugs are things that were overlooked during development

I've played the EGA version mostly, never really got into the remake, since (for obvious reasons) it doesn't have much original stuff in it. It's easy to max out throwing in a day - without cheating - so after that you could soften up the enemy by throwing rocks or daggers at it and take the edge off the fight. Climbing and working at the stables gives good strenght (you can max that out pretty quickly also!) so you just keep pushing UP and earn some cash. Once you have enough money buy the armor and you can endure more beating...

Parry and Dodge can be maxed out fast once you get your Weapon Use high enough: Just fight the Weapon's Master, press and hold Dodge or Parry until you're almost at the edge of the courtyard, then press and hold the Up button to get some more room. Wash, rinse, repeat. You'll max out your stats fast, be able to kill monsters and earn money and save the day!

Just keep at it and SAVE OFTEN, you'll be the Hero of Spielburg in no time.

Thanks all the same PW. I'll keep your link in mind, but as Jonesy says (if he's right?) it does appear to be cheating of sorts and if so I can't break my principles.

I've been struggling on so far, have improved my situation somewhat, so I'll keep it that way until I either succeed or fail. If I am truly stymied then I'll take your advice.

Regards and Happy Questing!

I can understand what you mean. I can use them without a second thought since I've beaten this game about 40 times before I discovered the codes.

Grateful for your understanding my reluctance smile.gif So let me stuggle through. The reason I'd started this topic was (I think I've already said it) that I did play it successfully in the late or middle 80s. Now I got so used to the new VGA and mouse games that I was surprised at my lack of success crying2.gif , plus the typing and that too AmeriSpellings lol.gif
