EGA... even if VGA looked better, I prefer EGA.

Why?

EGA.

Oh, what fun I had figuring out what to ask, instead of just getting all the options. I liked VGA's battle system and Zara of course, but somehow the feel of the game is better in the original... since it is original.

D-Boy, you just lazy and don't wanna spend time maxing your abilities the old fashioned way or what? Well, I guess if you're in a rush to finish the game, but why would anyone be in a hurry to end a great game!?!

I'll admit, I'm just to lazy for typing everything
Gaily bedight, a gallant knight in sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long, singing a song, in search of El Dorado.
But he grew old, this knight so bold, and o'er his heart a shadow,
Fell as he found no spot of ground that looked like El Dorado.
And as his strength failed him at length, he met a pilgrim shadow.
'Shadow,' said he,' Where can it be, this land of El Dorado?'
'Over the mountains of the Moon, down the Valley of the Shadow.
Ride, boldly ride,' the shade replied,' if you seek for El Dorado.'

It's not that I'm in THAT big a hurry... I just want to ensure I stay alive. When I played VGA, since I couldn't get my stats very high, I got the crap beat out of me very easily!

That doesn't happen nearly so much in the EGA. It's much more fair.

I like both, for different reasons.

But I must say that I believe the BEST approach to QfG is to play the EGA version. It stretches your mind, lets you think about what to ask the various characters, keeps your interest and attention focused...

The VGA version is much easier, and that's fine if you're playing for the nostalgic kick and you simply want to get through the game reasonably quickly. To completely immerse oneself in Spielburg requires more concentration. EGA for that, in spite of the pixel world and all of that.

You can download Game Wizard to help you with that on the VGA version...

But in all honesty, I perfer the EGA. It's not just some hair-tearingly annoying bugs, but also the fact that it has a certain, antiqued charm to it.

Then again, the goblin training area is MUCH better in the VGA version of the game. Because there was upwards of only 8 foes you could fight and loot, whilst in the EGA version, the max you could loot was 8, but they kept adding one to the amount you had to fight EVERY time you went there!

Till next time stay cool cool.gif

exactly. The VGA makes things way too easy but I like the updated look and it's fun to play after living off of the EGA for a long time. But I really love typing the commands more. It challenged me to either take notes or to remember things. Cause you could ask almost anything and there was no hints on what to ask. So if a character mentioned a name or a place or something interesting, I would write it down and ask about it to everyone else I came across. It just opened my mind a bit more. With the VGA version, there's no fun to it. All you do is point and click and read. With EGA, I almost felt rewarded for the fact that I asked the "right" question and got my answer. Like a detective of sorts. But that feeling wasnt there, of course, for VGA cause the questions are there for you to look at. It also made the Gargoyle part VERY easy.

I mean, multiple choice made things too easy. I remember the first time I heard the question "What's the meaning of Life". I had no freaking idea I was only 10 and never heard of Hitchhikers Guide. I had to actually look that one up online and found out it was from the Hitchhikers Guide book or what not.

Bah, I would pick EGA over VGA anyday. But I like to play both. The Type Command just made things more fun and more challenging though I think

It's not a matter of typing the commands - I just like the graphics more on VGA biggrin.gif

But strangely I like Qfg 2 more than I do Qfg 4...

One particular insignificant thing I like better in the EGA version is the animation for when you throw a dagger. The Hero does the whole motion much better than in the VGA version. He draws a dagger by the handle, flips it up in the air, catches it by the blade, and throws it. In the VGA version it somehow just ends up in his hand, and you can't see it until after it leaves his hand.

One other little thing... if you ram down the Brigand's gate, the little animation afterwards is better in the EGA version.

These aren't the things that made me pick EGA over VGA.. just little things I remember that were not done so well in the VGA version.

It was already mentioned, but I always wondered why they took out the Troll's cave in the VGA version.

Oh one more thing... since I'm rambling on here... the Brigand ambush just seems to flow better in the EGA version. It builds up better... it just doesn't look as deadly in the VGA version.

Troll's cave? You mean the one in the brigands lair? Or have I missed something completely... crying2.gif
