I had an issue with the one GOG installer with QFG5 - that every time I'd boot up the game, I'd have the game crash every single time I'd click the game. The only fix I found for it was to uninstall and reinstall from an older GOG installer.

That is odd. there is only one main difference between the original release and the later one, which is a QuickTime file that was missing that caused noisy sound and instabilities without it. Perhaps some file became corrupted that was replaced by reinstalling it.

I was thinking it was something along those lines too. Luckily I didn't delete my old download install when they updated the installer. Spent a couple days troubleshooting before trying the "let's try an older version" and getting positive results.

Does it have the small file QuickTime.qtp? that should be the only difference. Without it, the QT videos can be flaky with distorted sound. GOG had originally omitted it. I strongly suspect that it is not a matter of versions of installers, but simply because of a clean install. There are far more differences between installers for the other games. Those were originally very poorly put together packages. A couple did not even start, but I am surprised that it was made public.

Well, not sure how big the Quicktime file is, but the original file (which I had renamed, but was purchased and downloaded the day it was released, so we'll call it 1.0.0) has a file size of
1,235,705kb, while the newer download that gave issues, v 1.0.1.30, has a file size of
1,229,903kb, which is actually... smaller. *shrugs*

Like I said, I got everything working by 'downgrading' which really isn't that much of an issue.

Just noticed that there's a 2.0.0.32 update available. Hmm... May have to see if that fixed any issues.

The two files would not have originally been in the game folder. The QuickTime files from the original installer would have been in the system directory or the QuickTime folder. The reason that I placed them in the game's folder was to solve the QuickTime incompatibility issues (Minos falling, crash at launch, etc.) with the newer versions of QuickTime that most have installed on their systems. My installer uses the two required files extracted from the QuickTime installer that shipped with the game. GOG started with my installer, but did not consult with me until after they had done QfG5, so I am not sure if they may have used a different QuickTime. The original two required files are:

QuickTime.qts (6,052,352 bytes)
QuickTime.qtp (1,337 bytes)
