Requiem reminded me. As a Fighter, how the heck do you 'push' Ad Avis over the edge?

I'm not sure if it is the correct way for a fighter, but I did it by throwing a dagger at the brazier

Courtesy of "Almirena's Amazing Assistance For Annihilating Ad Avis" comes this information which will have Ad Avis meet the ground at a velocity unsuitable for continued life:
When you get to the roof, don't chit-chat with Ad or mutter threats about "Oh, boy, I'm going to stop you, you dreadful villain, you." Simply run straight into an unlit candle so that it topples over. VoilĂ - you have prevented the Iblis-summoning ceremony.
But wait! You also have to get a complete set of steak knives... no, no, no, you don't. No knives. You're a FIGHTER. Okay, gird your loins and prepare for Ad Avis's angry response. He will start assaulting you with fireballs. You must run away in the great tradition of Brave Sir Robin... well, actually not really AWAY as such... just run left, towards the brazier.
Is it safe? No. Ad will engulf the brazier with flames. It's important to chant to yourself, "I am not afraid, fire cannot hurt me, I am not afraid, fire cannot hurt me, ouch, ouch, that hurt, oh darn, lost the thread, okay, I am not afraid..."
Or just ignore the chant. Run through the flames towards Ad Avis. This triggers your pushing attack upon that false "friend" of yours, and Ad Avis will go over the edge to meet a messy doom on the unkind stones.
This is the EOF-approved, the best, the most fighter-istic way of defeating Ad as a fighter.

I must check this out sometime, after I make sense of your bizarre post, that is. <grin>

Just hit the brazier with something.
EDIT: The left side of the brazier. You can knock it the wrong way.

Any way to destroy the statue in a quick manner? I've heard there's a shortcut as a wizard, but not as a fighter.

You can just type "escape" to bypass it. If you're a fighter you just have to hack away. Use the zap spell if you have it.

As you probably know, you can't actually destroy it as a fighter. You might as well just "escape".
The only one who can destroy the statue is the wizard - using "Trigger" to make it crumble.

The Gargoyle statue that comes to life? I beat it as the fighter.

Are you sure, PW? I whacked and whacked and whacked at it as a fighter - pure class - and got nowhere with it... Finally I found a strategy guide that said, "Don't even bother... just escape."
If it IS possible to destroy it, I'll have to do this!!! <smile>

I believe it is. It's just a matter of how much time you have and how strong you are. I just bypass it most of the time. But I have beaten it before.

From what I've heard, the gargoyle statue is not invulnerable as such, but simply has an obscene amount of hit points. I never managed to destroy it myself, even after blue frogging my strength stat up to 4 digit heights.

Odd, as I remember destroying it myself... Perhaps it was from a force bolt or something... (when I played as a Mixed Class Fighter) Can't seem to recall winning with just a sword though...

I used my Fighter Wizard multi-class. I had 250 for all of my skills. I remember casting zap before every strike I placed.

Forget the statue, I haven't been able to beat the game as a fighter yet, I always have to cast reversal to protect myself from becoming a saurus, and knock over the brazier with a force bolt.
What is the other way? I read the directions posted, but I don't have any flames thrown at me, he just tries to turn me into a saurus...

I think this applies to the thief ending.
PS. I never imagined that female paladins would be so charming.. yes you know who i am referring to!

When you've been turned into a saurus, try to get yourself sold to some other hero type, and let him deal with all the evil guys. Too much bother to do it yourself
I really should replay these games... I can't even remember using reversal in QfGII, the first memory of it I have is in WoW.

You get it at the end of WIT... Is that my problem? Can you not defeat him as a fighter if you go through WIT?

I know your options do get messed up if you give yourself a multiclass character... The game "thinks" you're a specific type, and it's not the type that it says at the top of your character sheet, it's something to do with having points in stealth and climbing and lockpicking, or in magic, or in dodge and what's-the-other-one-called.
That could be it.

Well then it must love me, I have magic, lock pick, stealth, dodge and parry
The only thing I don't have is climbing... I always liked having many solutions to puzzles available to me, not to mention a well rounded character. Maybe I'll have to go through and play them again as 'pure' types.

Hey, the pure types are the best! You get a little more difficulty and you have to think about how a specific type would solve a puzzle. Makes the game more interesting, though multi-class characters have their obvious advantages.

I really enjoyed being able to to all the story lines with just one hero. I mean, I'm able to gaduate WIT, EOF, and steal the black bird. It just makes for a richer story, IMO.

Well, I only do the theif stories for the first and forth if I'm going to be a paladin... Although the first time I played QFG5 I tried to play as a theif paladin

It took me quite a bit of trying around to master this last sequence. The automatical running over of things didn't work for me, I had to do it all manually.
After entering the last room, I first had to "fight" the statue before I could "escape" it. After running to an unlit candle, I had to "remove candle". Then I ran left of the brazier and "throw dagger" on it to hit Ad Avis.
