I'm seeing the game lock up very often particually, during fight scenes. The action simply stops and though the mouse still moves the interace is disabled completely, I can get around this buy saving constantly, but does any know how to fix this issue?
Paladin Wizard
Ok, here are the first few XP fixes:
  • Set the compatibilty to 95/98.
  • If you are have problems with the sound you need to install:
  • VDM Sound
Also did you install any fan made patches?
Spikey
Compatibility mode doesn't do anything useful.

Which version of QFG2 ya running? I seem to remember two very distinct versions, they had different title bars. One with 'II', one with '2' I think.

There is the disk version and the cd version. The only difference is that the cd version has the sierra patches on them.

Are you using DosBox? If yes, then maybe it's a CPU speed thing - try playing around with it - I would try setting it up faster first smile.gif
Spikey
Are you even using XP? I just realised he didn't say..
Elsa brings up a good point. What OS are ya using, and assuming XP, what methods are you using? Not much detail, today (we're not psychics).

Ah, the answer is coming to me out of the ether... I sense it... yes, yes, it's all there, it's all happening, the connection is there, oh joy, oh joy, ohhhhhh....

Oh no. Someone turned off the Psychic Connection Combobulator. Now I'm just a ... how was it put in Babylon 5? ... Ah yes, a MUNDANE.

I'll do some digging around, and see if anyone's had this problem before. I mean the game locking up problem, not the suddenly mundane problem.
Spikey
/me chuckles quietly

Yeah, please do post if you find out what's up, A- I'd be interested to know about this one myself.

Ok, let me get into a few more specifics. Yes I'm using XP... and I'm using VDMSound, and NOTHING else... No DosBox, no 3rd Party Fixes... Generally speking the game runs splendidly. No problems whatsoever. It's just that during occasionally (just often enough to be nusciance) in between attacks during long fight scenes (such as practice with Uhura) or when a guard crosses the path in an alley-way, in both cases when the game action pauses as it should, it does not unpause, I.E. the Sword Cursor becomes a dragon head, and does not go back. Normally when the Cursor indicates pause, I can still use the GUI drop down menus as normal when I have my issue, I can not... The dragon icon still moves, indicating that I do not have a hard crash, and in fact if I ALT-TAB to Windows, and CTRL-ALT-DEL the program managers does not indicate that the program has stop responding (of course if you ALT-TAB out of QFG2, and try to ALT-TAB back in Avoozl comes to life and eats your spleen, but that's neither here nor there) Anyway... I actually left it on overnight just to see if it would ever come back to life... in the morning my computer was on fire and Avoozl ate my spleen... O.K. I'm kidding there... It's four in the morning and I'm on watch...

Ah, yes that.....

Well, there were times that I got that too (it doesn't happen often). I still haven't figured it out or tried to for that matter - but it doesn't bother me much cause it doesn't happen often smile.gif

(Yes, in DosBox)

This is a pesky bug that bites the game here and there. It should happen very much at all. This is a timer issue with today's high-speed processors. Other then right clicking on the QFG2 executeible and setting the compatibilty option to win 95/98 there isn't much more you can do besides running slowdown utilites.
Vault_Dweller
I know what you mean I played Space Quest 5, it somtimes messes up if you crank the Game Speed to high, it locks up, I would try to slow the game down if possiable.
Grand Dad
Win98 is the best OS for all Sierra oldies...that's my experience anyway unlike the ---joy of Al...! Thank goodness no lock-ups for me.
Paladin Wizard
Here are some free slowdown utilites:

CPU Grabber
CPUKiller 2.0
Turbo

Hope they help. smile.gif
Grand Dad
I give Turbo five stars...it's the best!
