Well personally I like everything about the game

Even that caged beast guy and the golfer in the desert
But the only thing that makes the game less fun is the part when the Hero goes to Raseir and there's nothing to do and he has to wait and wait.....
But the rest rocks I love Trial by Fire yeah!

Can somebody please explain to me what the Persian golfer is supposed to mean? I've seen the golfer in the desert a million times and some people call him 'the greatest easter egg' in the game, but I have no idea what's he's supposed to mean. To me he was just a golfer.
Also the expression 'the whole 9 meters' is originally the whole 9 yards, 9 meters is 9.8 yards, and 9 yards is 8.2 meters, so it should be 8.2 meters to be authentic.
Remember, give them 2.54cm and they'll take the whole 1.609km

Metric system rules!
Till next time stay cool

The thing I like the most about Trial by Fire has to be the Arabic setting, the story is great, but the feel of walking about the Shapier and basking in the atmosphere is the best thing in the game.
I think it would be more accurate to call the golfer a Silly Clown, seeing as he's not really a reference to anything, and that he only appears when you turn the Silly Clowns on. Now the x-ray glasses, THAT is a easter egg!

Well to tell you the truth I've never used the Silly Clowns thingy but I keep seeing the golfer guy anyway...

I think he is an Eastern Egg but well he doesn't necesarily need to MEAN something it's just a humour thing uppon golf and how it's played, especially by fanatic golfers

That Persian golfer guy is definitely a REAL SPORT!

It was a hard choice, but the Arabic setting won it for me. It's just so different from the first, and so amazingly funny.

I liked everything. The combat system was much more strategy oriented than previous and later games, the rich Arabic culture was absolutely wonderful, the laughs

, the sidequests for each class are still unparalleled, I can't think of anything negative right now.

The Persian golfer is an allusion to a classic golf joke about how much of a game of golf is spent in the sand trap. In fact, there are more than a few jokes involving a golfer on vacation, the desert, and the words "That's gotta be the biggest sand trap I've ever seen!"
And I enjoyed the combat system the best. One of the few games where I actually have fun fighting baddies.

Aye agree. The combat system was awesome.
Add to that some of the best monsters in the entire series. . . <whistle>

I had to vote for the Story... In my opinion, the game has the BEST plot of all, and the introduction to the elementals is just a big added bonus!

So what else is new?

I agree too Qfg 2 combat system totally rocks and the Qfg4 one too!

Jul 10 2003, 04:07 PM
Nah... It took me about a year to figure out how to even use the QG4 system! The QG2 one is the best! All the way!
Spearflight
Jul 10 2003, 04:31 PM
Meh. In my opinion the QfG 4 combat system was a bit too poorly done. You had to walk towards the enemy to even hit him, and in the intervening time he's breathing fire at you/casting magic spells at you/draining away your health/gnawing your toe off.
In SoD it really payed big time to be a mage with ranged spells.
My favorite thing about the combat in QfG 2 was the hidden move where the hero took a step back, then lunged forwards and kills the enemy in one hit. To this day, I still haven't figured out how it works.

Is it only for fighters?
Orion
Jul 10 2003, 08:00 PM
I imagine so, since the fighter's the only one who has full reign over sword use
You can edit the other 2 so they have a sword, but they don't swing it right.

Jul 11 2003, 12:16 AM
If a non-fighter has an edited broadsword from QfG1, you can buy the fine sword and borrow Soulforge. . .
Spearflight
Jul 11 2003, 05:36 AM
I believe it's only the fighter. Kinda hard to imagine a dinky little dagger killing an enemy in one hit.
The animation for it looks like the fighter totally skewers his opponent with that long blade. I once had a pic of it, but the file became corrupted.

Hmm, interesting - never seen it. Then again, I never did play much with the fighter.

The atmosphere, the jokes, the story, the villains, the characters, and the quests...
... those are some of the reasons for enjoying QfG2.
