Full Version: Permanently stuck, game bug? HELP!

Roger The Hero
Right now, I have 228 puzzle points. I am a paladin, and I've gotten 100 paladin points, 300 honor, and a whole lot of other good stats. I like this character right now, and I don't want to have to start over. But something is stopping me from continuing my game. Whenever I try to go into the Laibon's hut to give him the dinosaur horn, the guard outside simply blocks the way and refuses to let me in. I'm running the game on windows XP, so it goes extremely fast, and whenever I go into the Laibon's hut I am bombarded by questions at lightning quick speed, of "Why are you here, friend of Rakeesh?"

I have to quickly click through these dialogues to get to ask him anything, and usually it ends up draining my honor if I wait too long, and sometimes even taking away my paladin abilities, because the game thinks I'm sitting there for too long. Anyway, I heard that if you ask the Laibon about the magic drum more than once, he kicks you out of his hut and you lose puzzle points. Well, since I have to quickly click through the dialogue options and not really read anything or risk losing all my honor, I firstly have no idea if I've clicked this drum option twice, nor do I know if that's why I can't go back in the hut.

Does asking about the drum twice permanently make you unable to enter the Laibon's hut? It is now day 43, and I am still not allowed in. The leopard woman out back will not accept my beads, dagger, or statue. Uhura is unvisitable. Nobody in Tarna helps.

What should I do? Should I just start over, or is this something I can get around? I just need to get into the Laibon's hut and get that drum, or do the initiation, or just anything. I've been running around for 20 days (at least) waiting for him to let me in, but it's not working.

HELP!

Welcome to the forums, Roger. smile.gif

OK, now on to the problem. Since the speed of the game appears to be a hinderence, I'd suggest you try DosBox first, since the program will slow things down to a more managable speed for you to use.

If you want the leopard woman to accept your gifts, you need to marry her first. After you've completed the initation (which I believe you've already done). If you've been kicked out of the Laibons hut and you don't have a savegame prior to that, then I'm afraid that starting over appears to be the only way to solve it! I'm very, very sorry for that.

Also, if you want to marry the leopard woman, you need to simply give the bride price (which I believe is "one fine spear, one fine robe and five zebra skins" if I'm not mistaken).

Hope I helped. smile.gif

Oh, heh heh, let me clarify. What I meant was I can't start the initation, because I cannot go into the hut. Is there any way to fix that, or does anyone have a save game perhaps? I need to fix that excretory substance quick so I can get back to playing, because I'm not just gonna want to start laying around on the ground waiting for my game to be fixed, I need a quick fix with some leopard woman chicks, but I first need to get these sticks through the hoop on the ring, help me, please, you can speak, rap, or sing, just tell me how I can get into the laibon's hut, you know, that leopard woman's a slut, I just want to start the initation, then smoke some weed and spread rap through the nation, I'm not a hatian, because then I could use a voodoo doll to cheat and win the game automatically, ah, I see my flow's busted, well, see you on the flip side, thanks for the help.
Roger The Hero
Oh, and also, I'd be willing to start over if perhaps you could give me a trainer or something that I could max out my stats with, because I've spent a looooong time getting this guy ready for shadows of darkness in tip-top shape...or, just give me a save game with a perfect char right after the initiation, since that part usually crashes for me anyway (when I get to it).

also, I cannot get dosbox to work right, it runs insanely slow and all my typing is lagged like two whole seconds behind me typing it. Any tips?
Paladinlover
I can't give you a trainer, but try Game Wizard to see if it works. (just look for it on Yahoo)

You should know that I haven't played QFG 3 in years, check out a walkthrough on www.The-Spoiler.comor something to that effect. They have everything you need. smile.gif

I had this problem as well. I turned the speed up all the way and quickly ran in and out only losing a few Paladin points. I have gotten everything up to 300, so I can give you my save game, but I'm at the part after the Laibon get's assassinated, so I'm locked out of Tarna and the village.
Paladin Wizard
redface.gif Since no more replies have been made I'm going to assume that you got past the problem. bounce.gif
Avoozl
Don't assume! Maybe he's busy or something?
Arcane of Flame
Argh, looks like someone else had this problem. I haven't played WoW in a long time, but I still remember how I got past that problem! Considering your stats, it shouldn't be too hard. What I did was I ran around in the wild a few days, I had to defeat EXACTLY 100 monsters...
If that doesn't work, google QfG (when I did on the top of the list there was a website with char datas.)
Otherwise there are saved characters on the main site ( Clicky )

Basically this is just a timer issue. Check back at the hut in the morning, Noonish, & the evening. Do this each day. smile.gif
Roger The Hero
I actually ended up just starting over because I got tired of trying to fix the stupid thing LOL

Thanks for all your help though, guys. It's really great to see a community of people who still are around to help with these awesome games.

Oh, and doesn't Walid at the end of QFG2 look like he's got excretory substance smeared all over him? I call him excretory substance-man because he looks liek he has excretory substance on him

This is one of a few boards we all try to keep going. These games are too good to be lost in the dust of the ages. smile.gif

In case anyone else has the problem, and reads this thread not knowing what to do:

The Laibon (and indeed, the Initiation Ritual) are both timer bugs.
They can be simply fixed by patching the game with this utility (there are other ways, but this is by far the easiest):

(Scroll down to QFG3).

Paladin Wizard
Just a warning, I believe that you have to start over when the fan-patches are installed. smile.gif
Spikey
Yeah? Maybe they update your game version. I really must investigate all this..

Paladin Wizard
Well I'm not sure, so I'll have to defer to someone who has tried all the patches. I'm only using the QFG4 patch. And it works great. wink.gif

So I'm glad I registered to sign the petition yesterday because today I'm having this problem getting back into the Laibon's Hut. Only I'm a wizard and I just maxed out my stats. Am I screwed? Will I be able to get back in or what?

Also, I thought all of the games bugs were patch in the dosbox installers, is this accurate or do I need to apply the patch and start over?
Ghost_Rider
I'm not sure if the timer fixes are included with the DosBox install, but I am not sure the patches would resolve that issue anyway. I think there may be something you need to do in the game to trigger getting back into his hut.

What part are you stuck at exactly? Is the Leopard prisoner still in the cage? Have you already gotten the Spear of Death?

Installing the timer fixes, fix these issues:
- Raajah and Sekhmet Talkers now have modeless windows
- Laibon conversation
- Thief conversation
- Simbani initiation
- Various animations
- 'Dissolve' transition effect

(It mentions the Laibon conversation, but this is the actual timing during the conversation when you are talking to him)
Jack of All Trades
Ghost_Rider, you are awesome. Thanks for responding. I figured out my problem yesterday. I didn't bother posting the response because I wasn't sure anybody would bother reading it. I was experiencing the dinosaur horn bug. I didn't realize that I was experiencing it for two reasons. 1. I was playing a Wizard and not a Fighter/Paladin and 2. because I stuffed my useless Dinosaur Horn into the chest at the beginning of the game.

Even though I didn't need the Dinosaur horn in the game. I still could not go into the Laibon's hut without dropping it and getting a new one. Good thing I make back up saves...

Thanks again Ghost_Rider.

You're welcome! beerchug.gif

The forums have been a little quiet lately. I myself was away for quite a while there, but there is usually someone lurking who is willing to help to the best of their abilities. smile.gif

I'm trying to make a presence here. QFG needs some help as a series. Apparently AGDI's remake hasn't had as many downloads as they hoped and Hero6 has failed. So I was really hoping it would bring some new blood to the series. So I figured that I'd be active on the boards while I was playing to help out fans who are interested.

At the very least I'm one more voice.
Ghost_Rider
I like your attitude! thumbs.gif

It's always great to see people who are enthusiastic about the series, and who are willing to discuss it and get others interested. It's not always easy to find the time to play games and be online on forums to discuss them. Between work or school (or both), paying bills and putting food on the table, there just isn't enough time for anything else at times.

In the last couple of weeks there have been quite a few new people joining the forums, which is always nice to see.
Jack of All Trades
I can't agree with you more. I've been trying to talk get in touch with the kids behind Heroine's Quest to see if there is anything I can do to help them out. If they are still making the game then its our last hope for a qfg sequel so I want to do everything I can to help.
Ghost_Rider
Good deal. I hadn't even heard of Heroine's Quest, do you have a link for that project?

I used to lurk around the Hero6 site once in a while hoping to see updates on game progress, but that seems to have faded out, unlikely to return (as you have already pointed out).
Jack of All Trades
The page is here: Heroine's Quest

They don't have a forum or anything though. I spoke with Corby today and they are still plugging away at it.
Ghost_Rider
Thank you for the link. Wow, this is impressive, I really like what I see here. I like that they've done it in a winter setting, and sounds like it's based in a Norse region. The Thieves Guild looks pretty cool.
Paladin Wizard
First I've heard of this and it does look interesting. Some if not all of the mp3 links are broken. They should use Mega Upload for that, they might even make a little cash on the side to cover some of the site expenses.
