I'm standing in front of the leader, I go into my inventory, and, MY DISPELL POTION IS GONE!!!
I don't know what happened to it and I don't have any saves outside of the fortress. What do I do?

Well it can't be gone! The only time I had that coming was when I actually went into the fort without getting a dispel potion and my Hero got killed and I found out by the death message afterwards!
Anyway you either forgot to get the Dispel Potion from the Healer or there's somekind of bug involved there that I don't know of
Also one thing that I've always done with these games is that I actually made a number of folders for each in order to save the games. And basically I change folder everytime the current one is full so that way I have all my saves and I can always go back to any save I want at any time

I suggest you do the same thing next time
Sorry can't help you more there - you should at least have payed attention to the folder and saving part Netty

Thanks for the tip Elsa. I know I had the potion because I checked my inventory before going into the secret entrance. Oh well, I guess I'm done. I had built all my spells up to 100, my magic up to 100 and my intelligence up to 97. I don't think I could go thru all that again anytime soon. If I don't get the urge to play QG1 again before the QG2 VGA remake comes out I’ll just have to dig up one of my old 3.5 disks with my characters on it.

Well perhaps there's a way around this

I did some testing a while ago - and I found that you can actually turn back and leave the fort and get back to the town/Healer etc....
All you need is a saved game up to the point where you just entered the brigand fort - just before you enter the Brigand tavern - where you see all the traps and you get to pass over the dark rope traps. From there you can just leave where you came from and go past Toro and into the secret entrance on the left and get back to the Healer and atempt to buy the Dispel Potion again

Unfortunately my oldest save game is IN the tavern. Like I said, I checked my inventory for the potion before I went in to the fort so I didn’t see a reason to hold on to saves made before then.

I don't normally use cheats or codes, but under the circumstances I would use them to counteract this bug. Do you know if there are any cheats that would allow me to alter my inventory to return the potion, or edit my stats so if I do start over I don’t need to spend all that time building up my stats and spells. (I would only build him up to the point I am at now and no further, I promise.

Well there is a cheat code but it's for the original only

And it's not supposed to be used for finishing the game cause you will have trouble importing your character on the next games. It's only for fooling around

Have you checked ALL the saved games you have and it's gone in all of them?
Netskimmer
Feb 6 2004, 02:04 AM
Yes gone from all. I only have 3 and the earliest is just after entering the tavern.
Elsa Von Spielburg
Feb 6 2004, 05:29 AM
What do you mean you have only 3???

What happened to the rest of the saves in the folder you deleted them or something??
Netskimmer
Feb 6 2004, 05:41 AM
Three is all I have, it’s all I’ve ever needed, and still would be if not for this darn glitch.

Am I weird for having only three? (I'm weird for so many reasons, I just want to know if I can add this to my list)
If so, how many is normal?
Elsa Von Spielburg
Feb 6 2004, 07:54 AM
Well lets see....filling the folder maybe?
Netskimmer
Feb 6 2004, 04:53 PM
I didn't even know the folder had set number of saves allowed. How many does it take?
Elsa Von Spielburg
Feb 7 2004, 02:52 AM
Well I never bothered to count the exact number but they re definitely more than 3 and 4

You get to see a warning when the folder is full and you can change to another one

So did you replay the whole game then? I got your email with the saved character submition

Speaking of the characters, I can't access Merlin.
Almirena
Feb 7 2004, 04:08 AM
Merlin??? As a wizard to recommend you in WIT?
True - you can't. He hasn't met you, so won't sponsor you. But there is at least one user of magic with whom your character must have spent a bit of time...

Actually I was referring to the wizard in the saved game characters section of this site, but thanks for your reply just the same.

Yes the truth is I haven't uploaded him yet hehe
He's my Wizard character

Hi. I usually have lots of problems and stuggle to fix them until I finally give in and ask the forum, people on this site that know me know that, but I KNOW THIS ONE!!
Yes, its true.
If you have any empty bottles, your other bottles disappear, and then re-appear once the empty ones are gone. It may sound strange, but I tested it over and over again just to make sure I'm not crazy.
But then again, if you never had empty bottles when this happened, I am, once again, stumped.

Could it be that you accidentally consumed the potion thinking it was the mana potion or something?
It happened to me once, but fortunately I had plenty of saves.

Incidentally, you can save 20 games at a time, at least in all from qfg 1 through 4. Not sure about 5 yet.

yeah maybe you just drank it or pured it out. I remember being able to use it for no reason. see if your saved game in the tavern has the potion.

You can make mulitple directories for the first 4 games, each directory holding 20 games. In QG5, it holds unlimited
(or at least until you run out of disk space

That is insane.

I get buy with 2-4 saves just fine.

Yes, well. If you screw up and have to restore, saving over your oldies can mean agony!
Additionally, me who likes saves throughout games for easy MIDI music recording, finds it imperative to have folders of saves. I wouldn't want to have to play KQ6 through to record the Realm of the Dead music for instance!
Also helps for screenshot taking, easter egg finding.. etc.

Since I don't record the music (my computer is way to old.) or take many screen shots, and I'm perfect at these games 3-4 saves will do it for me.

Ah, but the fun can be in playing it imperfectly...

What does 'my computer is too old' mean in relation to recording MIDI? For me I run 2 Win '95 166's to record MIDI, for both smooth running of the games and so the MIDI records properly (smooth playing of the MIDI music).

I meant for recording audio in general. MIDI is about the only thing mine can do without any problems.

Not saffink kan be ze bane of eck-ziss-tanssss iv yoo make a boo-boo
But like I said - when I'm making QG pages, or getting images for somebody
- to go along with what Spikey said - I wouldn't want to play through QG5 to get a picture of the thief stealing from Mino's treasure room.
