All right, thanks to a conversation in the Rants and Raves section of this forum, it was revealed that Erana is a red-head with lithe elven features. It was also established that the blond beside Erasmus is, in fact, not Erana as long suspected. There's also that dark portrait left unclaimed.
Using knowledge from QfG 4, we know that she's trapped in darkness...
Conclusion? The Dark photograph belongs to Erana, and you can probably ask for Genesta as a mentor. Someone want to give it a try?

My impression is that the dark portrait belongs to Katrina, the Dark Master. She was expelled from WIT for untasteful doings.
Remember, there are many portraits we didn't see to the left and right of the hero.

Genesta eh? I'll have to try that sometime this weekend when I have some spare time.

That is Erana, not Genesta. The text says so, it also says she reminds you of your friend Genesta, it's a plug.
You can not choose Erana as a mentor, the Wizards say that they have not heard from her in some time and that she hasn't answered their summons.
The Dark Portrait is most likly Katrina's as she was expelled from WIT. I have tried chooseing "Black Portrait" & "Katrina" & "Erana" & "Ad Avis."
Don't ask me for direct quotes, as my collection isn't playable at the moment.

http://www.questformoreglory.com/forums/in...0&hl=erana&st=0Refer to Mishell's first post. She mentions Erana's a redhead. Always was, always will be. Thus the portrait must not be her, or she dyed her hair for it.

Artists interpretation, my friend. Erana does not look quite the same in any of her three appearances. But you know what? Neither does the hero or Erasmus.
The portrait does represent Erana - just changed so she can be an in-joke for King's Quest IV.
Remember, a half-fae and sorceress of her power can shapeshift easily.

Are you sure the black portrait isn't just blank? I mean, it could just be where they are going to put the portrait of the hero, also the blond Erana could just be a result of the funny lighting in flux.

Rognik, if you use the "eye" icon on the portrait it will say that it's Erana, but that she reminds you of your friend Genesta. It's a humorous plug for KQ.
I would post a screen shot for you, but do to computer errors I can no longer play my QFG collection games on this computer.

The red-head is Zara from Spielburg. You can look at her and find this out, as well as try to name her as your mentor (she'll say she didn't get to know you well enough or something).
Everyone you can see, you can try to proposition to mentor you--Erasmus (obviously), Erana (wizards will say she's missing), Ad Avis (doesn't know you but thinks he might use you later), Zara (see above), Merlin (hasn't heard of you), Houdini (all tied up), etc. I've *tried* to get a response out of the dark portrait, which I think is the DM as well--the Coles *were* planning SoD at the time, after all--but to no avail.
That's mah story and I'm sticking to it

Maghrabi!

I was wondering where you disappeared to. Welcome to the QFMG! Good to see you!

*hands Maghrabi a basket of goodies and an Ad Avis pull-the-string doll*

Go ahead, pull the string and listen to Ad Avis say all the things that made him famous: "How nice of you to come", "Trust your friend Ad Avis", or simply "Mwahahahahaha!"

Seriously, good to see you here.

PW, have you tried using DosBox?

It's the DOS and CPU emulator that actually SOLVED all the errors in Qfg4 (including ERROR52) and it works just as well on all the previous Qfg games solving problems based on faster CPU speeds. And also the sound works like it should.
Here.....
http://www.questformoreglory.com/forums/in...st=0entry8297I will be adding the program to the main site together with instructions on how to use it

You know, Harpo Marx was supposed to be a redhead (at least in Animal Crackers.) And in QG2, his hair was also blond.
Curse you, EGA games!

Even without DosBox, I can still run QFG 2. But I guess I can't run it in all its glory without the emulator

wierd, I thought I posted in this thread a while ago. I'll just say (since all the bases have been covered) that I believe PW was right and I also do think that the dark portrait is the DM.

I thought the dark portrait was either Katrina or Erana. I ruled out Erana after looking at it. And since Katrina was a vampire maybe she didn't have a picture? Or was she always a vampire? Anyway, I think this can only be answered by Sierra themselves, or at least the Coles.

Most people who think it was Katrina say it's blacked out becaues she was kicked out.

Personally I thought it was Erana...

Actually, I believe it WAS answered by the Coles about 'Erana's' portrait in W.I.T.
I'll try to recall it the best I can...
Since the Hero never actually met Erana, he more or less 'assumed' that the image was of Erana, even though it bore a striking resemblance to Genesta. And you know what happens when people ASSUME... they make an Equus asinus out of U and ME... <grin> Darn Hero!

Now you're just being stubborn. I'll cede you that we won't know who the blank portrait is until the Coles tell us. But that other one is Erana & a KQ4 plug.

Baba Yaga? Noone has ever tried to do that before! Gotta see this.

That makes me wonder, why wasn't Ad Avis kicked out like Katrina? He also performed dark rites in order to gain power, right?
Paladin Wizard

Well Katrina was already a Vampire by then while Ad Avis was not. There is much talk & speculation about this subject. But basically Katrina had probably done things worse then just using Black Magic to get kicked out of WIT.
