Quite simply as the title says, I can't figure out which sound settings to use to get the best sound for each game.

I remember on one of my older computers, I used DOSBox to play Conquests of the Longbow, and actually had monks chatting and more realistic sounding music instead of the classic chirps and beeps of MIDI files.

Anyone able to help? smile.gif

I use the default settings DosBox has - I have been using the same settings on my old Pentium 1 computer for ages now. These seem to be the best and most common settings for the old sound cards: Sound Blaster A:220 I:7 D:1 smile.gif

And I'm moving this topic to the Hardware section tongue.gif

The default sbtype=sb16 should be fine for the digital audio. For music, if you don't have an MT-32, choose General MIDI. Longbow is a late enough game to have both MIDI and audio drivers at the same time. BTW, there was going to be a MPC version of Longbow, but it was canceled. You can find a link to a demo of this talkie version on the Conquests of the Longbow entry on The Sierra Help Pages.

Ah, that would do it with Conquests of the Longbow, and yeah, I vaguely remember hearing about a voiced version back in the day. Shame it never happened, as CotLB ranks up there with KQ6 as one of my favorite games of all time! (Not just Sierra)

So just use the General MIDI format then... Sounds simple enough lol

Sound Blaster 16 is too new for any of the first 4 Qfg games.

But Sound Blaster 16 is backwards compatible. It will do just fine with any of the QfG DOS games.
