Hi guys,
I'm playing SOD in DosBox, and for some reason, the speech works fine but the fancy sound effects don't work at all. (In other words, I don't get any wolves howling in the opening, and the hero's sword makes a rather dinky sound instead of that dramatic "whoosh"...)
If I play the game in regular DOS, both the sound effects and the speech work, but they sound scratchy. I've tried switching between "Soundblaster" and "Thunderboard" for the audio, but neither setting gets the sound effects to work.
I tried the Rising Sun patch, but it didn't appear to do anything. Perhaps I didn't implement it correctly? (I simply copied the contents of the patch's zip folder into my QFGIVCD folder; they didn't over-write any of the already existing files, and looked like they were completely new files. Does that sound right?)
Sorry if this is a repetitive post, but I've looked at a lot of other threads on SOD sound issues and didn't really notice this exact problem. Do you think it has something to do with the settings on DosBox, and not the game?
Thanks in advance for the assist...

Have you played around with the cycles at all? That might help if you lower the cycles - it really depends on every individual machine, of course, in terms of getting the best sound.
Have you updated your graphics driver, etc.?
The way in which you installed the NewRisingSun patch is correct.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick.
I tried raising and lowering the DOS Box cycles using F11/F12 - no luck, alas.
I think that all of my drivers are up-to-date - how would I know if they weren't? (Keep in mind I'm kind of a technological ignoramus!)
Obviously it ain't too bad of a problem - the game is certainly playable - but it drives me slightly loopy.

Sure...not sure what you need, so I'll just paste my basic info:
Processor Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Processor Speed 2.92 GHz
Memory (RAM) 512 MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Operating System Version 5.1.2600
My sound card's a 24-bit Sound Blaster Live, and the graphics card is apparently an Intel 82865G Graphics Controller.
