Help me please, anybody !!! frown.gif

I've just finished the game as a Paladin (well, a-l-m-o-s-t)

But I'm hoplessly stuck in the final episode - in the Essense Room.

The problem is, I can't finish off Ad Avis, no matter what I do.

I've tried all the possible combinations with the Staff and Ultimate Joke (at different Speed and Skills Settings), but this ***stard just keeps springing back to live after being hit with the Staff

As far as know, Sierra aknowledged this as a bug and it was fixed later for the CD version of the Game.

- Ad Avis respawning after being killed

But I've got Floppy version (with all the existing patches installed, played through DosBox ) where this patch is not applicable...

I used the Belzorash's CD Patch as well (just in case); though I don't think it was any help for my floppy version.

Question 1:

Does anybody know how to work around this problem?

Question 2:

At this point in the game I mainly want to see the (MUCH DESERVED) end sequence. Does anybody have the final sequence movie, or a savegame right after killing the ***stard?

PLEASE...
Almirena

I'm a Paladin (imported from QFG3).
Spikey
I don't suppose it's possible for you to upload your save files?

Sure, I'll gladly upload them.

It's just that I'm new to this marvelous forum - didn't try all the buttons yet smile.gif

Can one upload anything into the message body?

Or else I might use a site like YouSendIt or Bandango?
Almirena
Unfortunately, you cannot attach a file to a message in the forum. I know - it's a pain, but it is a preventative measure as well. (Just imagine hackers uploading horrible scripts.) You can insert an image, include a link, etc., etc., but not attach a file. Please do upload your save files to a third-party site where Spikey can look at them and cast his vastly knowledgeable technical eye upon them.

(What sort of Paladin, though? From which class did your Paladin spring? That has a bearing on how you vanquish Ad Avis.)

To Spikey and Almirena:

Thank you for responding smile.gif

I've just uploaded my save files to Bandongo:

Paladin QFG4 - end game

Those are my three last saves -

- Heart Cave (after the Ritual) [heart]
- Essence Cave after Katrine's sacrifice [essence]
- Essence Cave right before dealing with Ad Avis [e1]

- Oh, and the catalog file as well (just in case)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

About my Paladin - he's a Fighter with magical abilities (no thief's background). Name's Angus smile.gif

A genuine Paladin too - got promoted by Rakeesh in QFG3 smile.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP !!!

I encountered this as well. you kill Ad avis with the staff, then as it floats up to the crystal, it suddenly turns back into him and kills you. The solution I had was to decrease detail all the way and lower the speed as much as possible. This seemed to o the trick. Try it and let me know.

I just managed to outwit this game the similar way:

[Run through Win XP - without DosBox etc. ]
[Details DOWN, Speed UP, Skills DOWN]
[Begin the last confrontation scene anew - e.g. from the Heart Cave - with those Settings]
[Save again just a split second after killing the @#$stard for good]
[Quit and Re-run the savegame again through DosBox]

And now let me tell all of you a super secret work around for this. Instead of killing him with the staff turned spear hit him with a dagger instead.
Rath Darkblade
Doesn't that only work if you're a thief?
Paladin Wizard
Nope, all you need is throwing. You might be able to pull it off even if you don't have throwing.

What's wrong with that? I don't see a problem.
