RUSHMAN
Hello all, I've read through a lot of the hints and suggestions on this forum but nothing has worked for me. The game (QFG1 old version) appears to run just fine in dosbox but I have no sound. I have tried modifying options in dosbox's config file, I have tried VDMsound, nothing seems to work. Does anybody have any suggestions?! Thanks in advance!

Also, I've tried running sciv.exe and sierra.com, both run the game just fine but no sound with either. I've also tried running install.exe and going through all the set up options, no luck there either.

I'd suggest going throug the setup options from install.exe again. Can't remember right now what works for me, but it does. And DOSBOX should be able to handle the music. But if we assume you've been looking at these things already, then let me suggest you check one almost-too-obvious thing: are your speakers connected and on? wink.gif

yeah speakers are on, connected, and working. Let me ask you how you went about doing the install. I assume you run the install.exe through dosbox, messing with the different sound options in there. My question is, which file do you then use to run the game after you run the install? sciv.exe or sierra.com? Also, whenever I run the install.exe, at the last part where it asks "If you wish to install this game to your hard disk, type the letter of your hard disk." When I type a letter it gives me an error that says, "Illegal Command: instgame.bat" Should I just hit esc at this part instead of hitting my drive letter? Anyway, thanks for the help so far, I'll keep trying.

I'll be going through how I installed the game after a good nite's sleep. Too tired now. But shouldn't be impossible to get to work.

Run install.exe, select whatever you have (16 colour RGB for graphics, for sound, if all you have is a Sound Blaster, select "Adlib Music Synthesizer card").

When it says, 'select drive letter or press ESC' , press ESC. You're already got the game installed presumably, all you're doing is changing the options (i.e. sound/graphics/input devices/etc).

Both VDM Sound/DOSBOX should be good. Owing to the nature of VDM Sound quality with games like QFG1EGA, I'd recommend DOSBOX for it.

Was on a long trip last w/e so couldn't get to reply, but Spikey seems to have confirmed what I thought would work. Thanks, mate!
Spikey
"what you thought would work", right. wink.gif

Well, that WAS what I did to get it to work for me, so I honestly did believe something like that could work for others as well. That didn't actually require a computer guru to figure it out. *shrug*
Seems like you did, anyways... wink.gif
