Ok, now this is very simple, when you've done all the deeds that can be done at any particular moment in the game, what do you do to pass the time as you wait for the next event?
My personal choice is to fight in the desert for the first 12 days, and then just use the map to move from the Fighters plaza to the Palace plaza, which passes the time very quickly.

If my stats aren't up to maximum, I work on whatever I can to improve them. That usually means fighting in the desert and working out in the guild - or practise casting spells... or practice being stealthy.
When my stats are at maximum, and I'm still waiting... I become very good at tapping my fingers on the computer desk, getting up, doing something else, peering back at the computer to see if a particular day has arrived...
That's the major reason why I find Trial by Fire isn't my number one QfG game.

Usually I have enough money from looting Carcasses, that I can spend money on about 10 waterskins, and about 50 each of the Vigor and Healing Pills, and I'll spend 3 days straight fighting Uhura until I'm needed.

It is interesting isn't it? As to how a woman can never, ever get tired from practice
Oh, and do you practice other skills? Like throwing?

Orion

Not really, since my typical hero's a mixed class Fighter/Wizard. I find throwing skills unneccesary, since you have Force Bolt.
As for raising my spells, I posistion the mouse, type the command, then put a paperweight on the enter key. Take a pill when needed, and repeat.

That's why you can go to the inn & sleep as much as you want!

I do that all the time. Too bad you can't do that in Raseir.... Oi. I hate that part of the game.

Aug 30 2003, 02:38 AM
But that's hardly heroic!

I mean, heroes are supposed to be training and working out to make sure they fight the bad guys, but... sleeping it off, who would think you a hero after that.

Well, it depends on my char. If his training is still lacking in some parts, I'll keep training. (Alternating between desert mainly for the spellcasting and training with Uhura.) Once I've done all the training I can do, I sleep!

But fighting monsters is good. It gives your pixalated hero a chance to wipe the desert clean of vermin... but given the fact that there's an unlimited suppy of such monsters, that can prove problematic, hmm...

I use all the free time my Hero gets (when there's no other deeds to do at the time) practicing with Uhura at the Guild Hall

That way my Hero's strength and other abilities will increase and by the time he will need Issur's bellows he will have 120 + Strength and he will be able to arm wrestle him to get them

Plus I always like to give my Hero the best amount of skills he can get

And I think it's boring to have maximum stats. Just boring.
A Hero must be unique. Must have his own name and his own stats.
For ex., I have a hero and you'll not find the same hero somewhere else.
His name is Roberto, he's a paladin with magical abilities...
...and he has a Thieves' Guild license, an Acme 2 Tool Kit and very good acrobatics.
Really cool, isn't it?
Okay, staying on topic...
I love to practice with jackalmen in the desert. They're just like goblins - staying in a row and waiting while I'll rip them to billions of zillions of pieces

When I'm tired of practicing, I ride my saurus and go deeep to desert to see Persian Golfer
Almirena
Aug 31 2003, 02:17 AM
The Persian Golfer is definitely fun.
What a pity there isn't a Mirage Hotel out in the desert, too...

You know, I almost never run into anything to fight while wandering the desert. Is that a problem for anyone else?
Perhaps my game is broken. Or perhaps I am.

At first I get my stats up to the maximum amount (takes a few days to do them all (not including all spells though)). Then I fight in the desert to get lots and lots of money and use that money to buy more pills to practice the spells until they are all maxed. Then I tend to just sleep in the Inn until important events happen.

That occasionally happens to me too, but in most cases, there is no end to enemies trying to kill my hero.

Yeah most times my Hero just travels through the desert with nothing bugging him too
By the way I don't try to get my Heroes powers maxed out - not most times anyway

But I do try to make him strong enough to face anything that comes in his path
When it comes to the 150 strength part though in Qfg 2 is sort of like a standart for me - I want all my Heroes to have at least 150 points of strength

Fighting in the desert is fun, and I'm very glad that the combat in TbF is as fun as it is. I can just sit there for hours doing nothing but fighting.
So that's usually what I do when I'm waiting for events. And wander throughout the desert looking for the elusive moose which was mentioned in the manual.
Arcc
Aug 31 2003, 08:34 PM
The moose shows up in the Adventurer's guild occasionally too.
I enjoy fighting with Uhura for days straight. If I need a break I'll go out and fight Jackalmen in the desert. Which brings me to another point in my list of annoyances. Some people tend to act as if the demi-human monsters (like the Cheetaurs, Jackalmen, and Crocs) are mindless animals that are non-sentient. Uncivilized is a better term for them. They are as intelligent as any katta, centaur, or liontaur; they just do not cooperate with human civilization. They are like the Tusken Raiders in the Star Wars universe, and they have chosen the life of the predator.

To get fights you just have to stay in a screen for a while. I usually fight one screen away from the Oasis. That way I can fill up on water when I need it (and also throw rocks at the dervish if I'm bored)
I wasted many years of my life looking for that moose also
Paladinlover

Water will last a while, you don't have to wait right next to it's source. Besides, I always carry four full waterskins whenever I go to the desert.

I walk one skareen to the left or right of the city overview screen. Then I walk back and forth from mountain range to the next. I don't bother with the saurus, throwing me off and runing away got on my nerves a lot. I carry 4-5 full water skins.

I hate to admit it, but I sleep. Something significant happens, I get up and do it, go train at the guild, go back to the inn, sleep, eat, listen to poetry if there is any, sleep until morning, repeat the process.
I was really disappointed in Rasier, as it took so long if you resist Ferrari's drink, and even then night doesn't come soon enough. And there's nothing to do there!
Briavel
Oct 9 2003, 06:19 PM
I practice until I get bored, then tend to sleep while waiting. Like many others here have mentioned, waiting for time to pass in Raseir was like pulling teeth. You can't sleep, wandering the streets risks getting lost, and I never wandered out in the desert once there.
Additional question: I have done the game both with resisting Ferrari's drink and drinking it. Does one or the other affect your score and/or dialog? I can't remember.

No, I have no problems with encounters. Even standing on screen will eventually cause critters to run out and jump you.
Usually while you're practicing your magic or tossing daggers.
Anyways, I chose OTHER. The other is whatever I need to do to amp up my stats, so that means either in the Guild Hall kicking the tar out of my fave punching bag OR in the streets lobbing or casting stuff. If I need money, I'll go out into the night desert and hunt down some jackalmen (and pray the game doesn't crash).

What I do while I wait is I sneak around the town improving my stats as a thief by going to WIT or arm wrestling Issur. I also spend some of my time making a map for the alleys of the town of Shapeir. This can usually last me for most of the time, I also try to look for events that happen on specific days.

well i ussually practice in the guild hall but once my stats are ful and it's no longer fun I either go out in to the desert or sleep...depending.
In Rasier though it's abit different I fight in the desert until I lose my Visa then I spend several minutes trying to eat everything I see (tables, people, dead parrots) then when I run out of things to try to eat i try to kiss all the same things, then when i run out of things to try and kiss...I wander aimlessly around the city, become lost then get in trouble for being out at night...
