Full Version: Importing a fighter with magic

I rarely play a fighter (because I don't think them interesting) but for once I wanted to play all five games through with a fighter (a bit of hard work not becoming a paladin!). Anyway I just love magic and didn't want to give it up. I had already played a normal fighter through QfG5 and now I wanted a fighter not only with magic but with all spells (other than those only available to true wizards). Guess what? Whenever I tried to import my fighter from QfG4 he turned into a wizard! Hmph!
(And no, it's not due to lacking the patch!!! I have it installed!)

Hmm, this never happened to me. Maybe Almirena can get you cleared on it.

Till next time stay cool cool.gif

I remember this problem. The previous version of the QFG boards had a fix listed in the help section. It involved open the import file in notepad and changing to a number. I don't remember which one it was. frown.gif I'll look around for it. smile.gif

Thank you! smile.gif
Paladin Wizard
I'm going to have to ask around. Because the boards help section doesn't have that information now. angryfire.gif
Lira Lindriel
Oh. That's too bad!

Thanks for trying! smile.gif Hope you can get an answer for me anyway! smile.gif

Did you install the patch, Lira? I seem to remember that correcting some of those problems... maybe not that one though. Anyway, if you have a fighter with magic from an earlier game you should be able to import it instead. That's how I got around the problem
Lira Lindriel
I did install the patch (I said so in my first post tongue.gif)

Hmm, might try that. *thinks for a moment* What spells do you gain in QfG4? Frostbite, Hide, Protection, Aura. (Plus Glide)
I know you can buy Frostbite in 5. But what about the rest? If I lack my favorite spell (Hide), I'm not playing! tongue.gif

Also it means less points to place onto your char. No acrobatic-skills from 4. Still I guess I can live without that. My fighter is well rounded out already so the only additional skill I'd want to give him in 4/5 is acrobatics.
Thepal
It increases the points if it is an earlier game. My fighter with 200 in all the skills and the Qg2 spells imported into Qg5 with all the spells from QG4 as well as 300-400 in the skills I think.
Lira Lindriel
Ah! Cool. Might try that then! smile.gif

I realize this is an old topic, but for reference, I found another way to solve it:

QUOTE ("Perdita")
Save the import file, i.e. shadows.sav to another name in case of error, or copy-paste it to a backup location (like a zip or floppy disk). Open 'shadows.sav' as a text file. You should see something like:
glory4.sav Meerdaka [this is name of hero]
053 050 05f 04f etc, etc, etc, etc............
Change the 053 050 to read as 055 055 to get a Fighter with Magic; 053 051 for a “pure” Fighter. Then rename your file back to a *.sav file and copy-paste it to the Import sub-directory of the QfG 5 directory. Then re-Import your char.

Fighter: 053 051, from QG1 to QG4 with or w/o magic; QG5 w/o magic:
Fighter: 055 055 with magic, QG5 only
Paladin: 050 053 (Paladins have several codes)
Wizard: 052 051
Thief: ?

I can confirm that it works.

Incidentally, I'd like to point out two things. One, I had his problem happen to me even though my fighter mad no magic whatsoever. So this bug can happen to anyone.

Two, in order to import as a fighter you must change the first hex code to 055, NOT 053. This must be done regardless of whether you use 051 or 055 for the second hex code. Since I don't have a fighter with magic, I don't know what the difference is. I tried both with my pure fighter and they were imported the same ( Fighter, no magic). Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this.

Now, this is something that could be put into the main site for importing help or something.

Ithilwen and koyar, good job!
