Ok, I'm posting this here because a number of people use geocities for their home pages. So here is the link that has to be blocked, copy it:
CODE
www.geocities.com/js_source/pu5geo.js

It's simple to block in IE so we'll do that first.

Tools > Internet Options > Security tab
  • Click on the restricted sites option
  • Select the sites button
  • The add dialogue box pops up
  • enter the above link hit "add" and then "ok"
If you did this properly you should be able to go to a geocities site without the annoying ads and pop ups. Viana's site

Firefox users, I don't remember how to do this in Firefox so you're on your own. tongue.gif

Then again, if you don't mind the adds that much you could just let them be or just click them away as they come up.

FireFox users can DL the "Adblock" extension smile.gif It's on the top of the list when browsing through the extensions

Pop-ups and ads... grrr.
Maiandra
I do mind ads and pop-ups. I was surfing the Web today at work during my break and I couldn't STAND all the ads that I don't have to see with my Firefox Adblock extension at home. They're so annoying. They disrupt the flow of reading so much sometimes.

Ah, the joy of knowing the administrator passwords of computers at work is so great...

I've installed firefox on them, even convinced the boss to start using firefox.
Spearflight
Or there's an alternative to convincing your boss to install Firefox. Portable Firefox

This is a full version of Firefox designed to run off of a USB thumb drive. Carry Firefox, your bookmarks and all of your favorite extensions on a USB drive. I've found it very useful when I have to work on something that doesn't have Firefox. ( Say... work computers, or the library )

Sweetness...

Spear, does that install include flash viewers? Every time I've been on a public computer without firefox I've installed firefox to it without admin privs but then can't install flash to it. frown.gif

Well, I was never really that bothered by the pop-ups. I just want to know, what's the whole deal with people going crazy over them? I don't see anything other than lame advertisements that can be closed with a click of a button.

Till next time stay cool cool.gif

Yeah, with a click of a button... But whenever you're on a site, that forwards you to a site you dont' want to be at - that new site usually has the tendency to have 50 popups attached to it...

Time consuming, annoying, and pointless - popups are *nods*

That's what happens when you're looking for girls on the web, Orion. Naughty boy. wink.gif No wonder Jades needed to spank you. lol.gif

I went on my usual website where I get my proggie cracks, and went to click on a link, but a popup POPPED just then, right where the cursor was...

Needless to say... All 50 windows that resulted from that were ALL NSFW... frown.gif

Is it just me or doesn't Opera block all geocities popups?
Brightshadow River
The firefox stuff isn't working for me, or at least, not well. Blah.

And Opera does have a good popup blocker.
Paladin Wizard
IE has a good pop-up blocker, now. The best pop-up blocker I ever used was AOL's and yes I have used ad block. The link I posted is for geocities java script. So if you kill that one link it should kill that whole ad automatically because it won't script. thumbs.gif

Will anything work for Tripod's crap? Like... http://members.lycos.co.uk/deniedembrace/phpbb2/index.php

Nevermind, it seems the majority of the problem is in the admin panel. *sigh*
Paladin Wizard
Block this link to kill that side panel: http://ads.tripod.lycos.co.uk/ad/*.*

Edit - 5pm:

I'm still working on the top one. My God, they have the most agressive javascript for ads I've ever seen. Whoever worked on that thing is really good.

Edit - 5:30:

Ok, just use that top link to lighten the load. tripod & Lycos have their servers set up to just keep pumping goodle ads in. So there's not much that can be done. frown.gif

Edit - A Day later:

The only way you'll be able to block all those ads is by disableing Java Script in your browser. Unless you really want to keep refreashing the page in firefox to keep adding to the ad block list.

What works somewhat temperamentally is to right-click on the main frame and select "show this frame only."
