Skipping the Minotaur

Post by mrprmiller » Tue Dec 06, 2016 7:31 pm

Thanks to the science that is speedrunning, Minotaurs are now a thing of the past in both the EGA and VGA version. No killing or casting required; just good old fashioned abuse of unintended sequencing.

There are two ways to make it past the Minotaur optional. Both require the Open spell, so cast that first from the bushes. This skip only works in the EGA. The VGA skip is a full-blown glitch and a little different.

1 - Brush up against the bushes to make them rustle, but don't step out into the open. The Minotaur will look around and comment that he must be "hearing things" before going back to his route. You may then move out and quickly open the door and run in. The minotaur will likely begin to look around but doesn't stop and fight you in time.

2 - Sneak out. You must move UP first, and then you will not disturb the bushes when you move out. You can then quickly run up to the door, open and get inside. This gives you a little less time than the first method, but isn't terribly tight for timing. Just save before you try it.

Poor Toro. When combined with the dagger throwing glitch in the Brigand Leader's room, the game can be completed even faster than this video. My current best time is 1 minute and 35 seconds from start to finish.

Wow! :wow: That is super fast! (Y) I had no idea you could beat the game so quickly! :D And the irony of it is, in the ending titles, you see the things you didn't do. ;)

Wait until I post the tool-assisted video. It clocks it at 44.5 seconds, I believe. We also found out that this is not just a dagger trick; you can cast Open and the same thing happens. Casting Open only works on the EGA version, though. Elsa just stabs you in the VGA when you try to cast anything.

Guess they found out about the casting thing and fixed it in the Remake then. ;)
